About Ye Old Shambles Tavern
It is a traditional Yorkshire pub on the beautiful Shambles, recently celebrating its 10-year anniversary.
Situated in a late-18th Century building with all its original wooden beams and butchers’ hooks - seen in the front bar.
Our resident ghost, Jim Render, occupied the building from 1881 until his death in 1900, and he was the last butcher to operate in this building. You can see his ghostly shenanigans on YouTube!
The tavern supports local wherever possible serving only Yorkshire ales and spirits.
For breakfast and lunch, they source as much locally as they can too. They’re lovely people and deserve to succeed!
Shambles was first mentioned in the Domesday Book 900 years ago and is one of York’s busiest shopping streets. The Shambles Tavern provides an oasis of calm and contentment - away from the hubbub of the crowds.
